Anyhow, we watched their Global TV Morning edition and just waited on the weather forecast. Their Global TV people are not as good as what we have here in Calgary! ;) After our showers, we decided to eat in the restaurant across the hotel - Golden Griddle. It was good but nothing special again - just some greasy sausages and eggs - no bacon too - so B was disappointed. My Alberta man needs his protein! :)
We watched the tram go by (we don't have trams in Calgary) and we figured out how our day will go. Of course, top of the list was Hockey Hall of Fame. Armed with maps and our little itinerary (we got the Hop on, Hop off package so we know where to go as far as tourist attractions are concerned) - we headed to HHOF in the BCE Place. We didn't realize that the BCE place is close to all other must-see places. And hello, right by this place is the famed CN Tower. It's majestic height does imply 'Look at me, I'm at the centre of the universe!' ;)
Our memory card had major issues. Dang memory card was showing an error message - so we got a new one! UGH! We had to do minor shopping stuff first because we have to find a store that carries a reliable one. Heck, this is our mini-moon! We need pictures!!!
Finally, we found one (expensive but working!) memory card that can take all our photos. HHOF is the place to be for all hockey die-hards (my husband included). I was a tag-along on that half day. We scoured all hockey paraphernalia, history, championship cup, heroes, watched a free movie, played in their mock-up rink and I scored - twice if I may add!!! (yay!!!) and finally, paid homage to the STANLEY CUP. The pictures you're about to see are just a SMALL portion of what B had taken. He was giddy - almost as if we're getting married all over again! :) He keeps referring to hockey as his 'mistress' so I think he had a great time being with the 'mistress'. :)
This day is all about Sports. So, naturally after seeing the Museum for Hockey, we went and peeked into where the Leafs play - Air Canada Centre. There wasn't any games then (thank God!!!) so we just casually strolled on the area. Next to the ACC is another major sporting event venue - Rogers Centre where the Blue Jays (baseball) play. We picked up some sporting gifts to the men of the family - his brothers, for Joaquin, and for his 2 brothers in law - Itoy and Gerald.
At about 4pm, we were on our foot again to see the great buildings in downtown Toronto. Indeed, they are the centre of the universe. All those magnificent architecture are just a beauty to behold. Toronto has character - more than the imposing skyscrapers, the buildings had some sort of history attached to it - and it was carefully preserved. And we both appreciate that! :)
The Union Square seems like a common place for any Torontonians. But being from the West
and not having the most sophisticated subway system, we were awed at how huge and grand-looking it was! Calgary has a lot of catching up to do.At Union Square, we found the guys in charge of the Hop-On, Hop-Off ride. We were given yellow pins that we can use to 'identify' us. I thought it was tacky (lol) but heck, we were tourists in the city - so I guess that's fine! ;)
We walked around some more - trying to get familiarized with the place. Eaton Centre is always teeming with people and their underground system (The PATH) where shopping is definitely a way of life. lol And because we had to go thru The Bay via the Path, we too, decided to buy a new luggage out of our gift card that we got! :) So yeah, shopping can't be avoided when you're in Toronto! ;)
Supper was at a neighborhood Chinese restaurant by Yonge St. The Chinese lady who was serving our dinner was very friendly. I guess they don't get many Westerners in Toronto. lol. And, for all the food we ate - we only paid $25! That's a cheap dinner huh! :) And equally shocking was the price of the Evian bottled water. For the big sized bottle, we only paid less than $3! I see what they mean now that food is cheaper in the East. To think, we bought the grocery stuff in Shopper's Drug Mart! (Shopper's can really charge an arm and a leg here - but not in Toronto apparently.) Could it be because they have a chain in every street corner in Downtown TO?
That's one funny joke we have. In Toronto, there are more Starbuck's and Shopper's Drug Mart than a Canada post mailbox! :)
