Two weekends ago, we were blessed to have a wonderful weather. The idea of camping is always a topic in our small family but because of time and previous engagements, we can't just do a full blown, planned-to-the max weekend of camping. But, we are always itchy to see some real water and so off we went to Bragg Creek / Kananaskis for a picnic.
Elbow Falls was about 1.5 hours from Calgary and with the majestic rocky mountains in the background, it sure is a fascinating place to be. We went out early (about 7:45am) and trudged on to the hamlet of Bragg Creek - armed with my home-made puto (rice cakes) and lemon-flavoured pretzels to contribute to the potluck while C's family had the burgers and hotdogs.
By 9am, we were in the grounds and yes, we're one of the very few and early visitors. Joaquin, my almost 3-year-old nephew, screamed with delight and said, Wow, ocean!!!! ;) It was hilarious how he was dragging me and his mom to get to the falls while he kept saying 'ocean'! We had to correct him and tell him that No, it's a falls - not an ocean. ;)
Gianna, my 1-year old niece came too with my sister and mom. Gianna was shrieking with delight after seeing his 'kuya' Joaquin. If the little boy is fascinated with water, Gianna was more interested in seeing the flowers and the trees.
We went for a small hike and ventured on to see the stretch of the falls. It was an awesome sight of greens and water - cascading into a gentle stream. After the small hike, we went and tried some frisbee and more wading in the water.
Too bad we started getting some rain by the afternoon and since we're not equipped with rain gears, we decided to pack up and call it a day. Next time, we'll make sure we have all possible gear to enjoy the water more and have quality family bonding time over the fire.
