Hockey (retro) Night in Calgary.

Once in a while, lady luck smiles at me and after a gruelling week, I was rewarded with something sweet - free tickets to the Flames game!!!

Saturday turned out to be our unexpected date night. We were supposed to just do our usual weekend fare of Farmers market shopping and with the holidays just around the corner - decking the halls but hey, we can't be more excited with the game as Calgary plays Vancouver. Hubby and I had dinner at a pub in 17th Ave before we hit Pengrowth Saddledome for the hockey game. (more on this post later). Prior to this too, we contemplated going to Inglewood for some inspiration but quickly squashed this idea as we favoured sleep over early gimmick. lol

It was Retro night for Calgary Flames last Saturday. That meant, unless you are a party-pooper, one has to wear the old jersey (like what I'm wearing above), or the old getup of shin pads, et al or for hubby's case, reminiscing history by paying homage to the first Flames - that is, the Atlanta Flames - and that's why you see him here wearing his cap. (That used to be the 'logo' and not the now known, flaming C). The jersey though that he's wearing is the latest Flames fashion, lol... (notice the Alberta flag? that's the hallmark of that latest change in the jersey)

We saw die-hard folks in their real treasured jerseys (yes, old L MacDonald ones from the late 80s!!!) and some, were dressed to impress with time-travel types of hockey gears - too bad I didn't take pictures - I was gawking as I annoyingly ask B why they were dressed as such.

Before the game, the Stampeders (Grey Cup Champs for 2008) graced the opening ceremony and proudly showed off their hardware.... we gave them a standing ovation as this football team showed real hard work and was in a lot of transition that for them to get the most coveted prize makes everyone in the city swell with pride too.

And, as if Henry Burris' opening words for the Flames signalled the outcome of the night when he announced on the mic, "It's time for the Flames to burn the Canucks!!!" - we won the game 3-1, with a handsome goal from my eye-candy, Matthew Lombaridi! :)

And that's me reporting from the Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary! (more pictures are in my facebook account - see you there!)
